Stay in the heart of the Palm Grove

The Marrakesh palm grove is made up of 100,000 trees, mainly palm trees, and covers 15,000 hectares. It was created in the 12th century by the Berbers, who revered certain palm trees which, according to their beliefs, offered life and fertility. The densely packed trees provided much needed shade to protect them from the sometimes-overbearing heat. To water the palm grove, an ingenious irrigation system was created.

The Palm Grove can be visited by car or in a horse-drawn carriage along a 20-kilometre circuit. This idyllic setting is popular with many celebrities who have a home here or who stay in the beautiful luxury hotels, including 5-star Hotel Tigmiza. For golf fans, there are several courses and art lovers will enjoy the Musée de la Palmeraie devoted to contemporary art, where the works of around fifty artists are exhibited.

The palm grove is Marrakesh’s green lung and deserves the full attention of the Moroccans who built an observatory to ensure the good health of the palm trees. Like all our beautiful natural sites, it is damaged by pollution and climate change. The palm trees are regularly replanted to preserve this precious landmark in Morocco
